What is LEPTOMASTIDEA ABNORMIS?

The small parasitic wasp LEPTOMASTIDEA ABNORMIS stongly prefers the citrus mealybug as a host; but will also parasitize individuals of the long-tailed mealybug. The striped wings in upright position are characteristic to this wasp.

How does LEPTOMASTIDEA ABNORMIS work?

Females deposit their eggs in smaller stages of the mealybug. They lay a single egg per mealybug; which results in a single wasp emerging. In practice it is difficult to find parasitized mealybugs; because they are so small. The mummies (i.e. parasitized mealybugs) are slightly darker and more orange than healthy mealybugs.
It takes at least four weeks to see the result after release of this product. The parasitoid easily establishes itself in a greenhouse and is active a big part of the year.

How to combine LEPTOMASTIDEA ABNORMIS

This product is great in combination with CRYPTOLAEMUS MONTROUZIERI  adults and larvae. This predatory beetle is very efficient under high density of mealybugs. Another good combination is either ANAGYRUS PSEUDOCOCCI or LEPTOMASTIX DACTYLOPII; two parasitoids who parasitize bigger mealybug stages.
