METAPHYCUS FLAVUS is a parasitoid that can be used for the biological control of brown soft scale and hemispherical scale. The product is especially applicable in greenhouses and other indoor environments. Immediately after release the parasitoids will look for a soft scales to parasitize. The adult parasitoids are available per 25 or 100 in a 40 ml jar. Only for business customers.
METAPHYCUS FLAVUS is a parasitoid that can be used for the biological control of various soft scale species; such as brown soft scale; oleander scale and hemispherical scale. The dark-yellow parasitoid is about 1;5 mm. The males can be distinguished from the females by their dark abdomen.
How does METAPHYCUS FLAVUS work?
This parasitoid parasitizes small stages of soft scale. The female wasps lay one or several eggs per soft scale. After about three weeks; one or several dark rings emerge in the parasitized soft scale. It is a sign that the young parasitoids are developing. Eventually the soft scale dies and the young parasitoid emerges from the pupa through a small hole. It will immediately start searching for new hosts. Thus the cycle repeats. In addition; the soft scales are used as a source of food by the adult parasitoids. This is called host feeding and this process contributes to the control of the pest population.
