THRIPOCTENUS JAVAE is a small parasitoid that can be used for the biological control of greenhouse thrips larvae. It is a real specialist: it only parasitized greenhouse thrips. The parasitoids are available per 100 pupae, glued to four cards of 23 each. The product is available for business customers only. The pupae hatch after several days and the parasitoids will immediately look for a host to parasitize. The product can be applied indoors.
The small parasitoid THRIPOCTENUS JAVAE used to be called Thripobius javae. The adults are only 0;6 mm in size. The wasps are bicoloured: the front half is black; while tha abdomen is yellow.
How does THRIPOCTENUS JAVAE work?
THRIPOCTENUS JAVAE is effective against greenhouse thrips. The parasitoid is very specific: it does not parasitize other species of thrips that occur in greenhouses. It only parasitizes small larvae of the greenhouse thrips. The female lays a single egg per thrips larvae; after which the larvae turn black and change into small cocoons. The cocoons are often located on the underside of the leaves and occur in groups. THRIPOCTENUS JAVAE's efficiency is reduced when ants are present.
How to combine THRIPOCTENUS JAVAE?
The parasitoid is great in combination with predatory mites against thrips; such as SWIRSKI-MITE or THRIPEX.

Release THRIPOCTENUS JAVAE near hot spots.5-10 parasitoids per m².25 parasitoids per infested plant.Repeat 2-3 times at an interval of 2-3 weeks.
Distribute the cards over the infested plants.
Place the jar under the plants: this enables early-hatched wasps to exit the jar.
Do not touch the pupae.
Keep from direct sunlight.
Within several days the pupae will hatch and start to parasitize thrips.
