What is Pheromone citrus mealybug?
Pheromones are specific fragrances that you can use to attract insects of a specific species. Often these are fragrances that the females of that insect species use to attract males. The pheromone was copied in the laboratory and put in a capsule. When you use the pheromone capsules in the greenhouse; the fragrance gradually evaporates from the carrier. It takes about 6 weeks for all the pheromone to evaporate. If you keep the capsules in the freezer you can keep them for a long time. No evaporation takes place in the freezer. Pheromone citrus mealybug is specific for luring the males of the mealybug Planococcus citri. Other mealybug species are not attracted.
How does Pheromone citrus mealybug work?
The pheromone for citrus mealy bugs is best used in combination with a delta trap with glue plates. Adult males of the citrus mealybug are winged and attracted to the pheromone. They will be caught on the glue plates of the trap. With this catching system you will not be able to catch all flying mealybug males in the greenhouse. It is mainly intended to detect whether and; if so; how many mealybugs are present. By catching the males; the plague will slightly decrease.

Pheromone citrus mealybug can only be used in combination with a delta trap with glue plates. As soon as you found mealybugs in the crop; you can use various products to combat the mealybug biologically. For example; choose a combination of CRYPTOS larvae with the parasitic wasp CITRIX-Ld or CITRIX-La.
