ERVIBANK is an open breeding system for parasitoids against various types of aphids. This grain tussock with grain aphids is especially suitable for the development of Aphidius ervi and Aphelinus abdominalis. This way you have a large population of parasitoids at the start of the season, ready to combat the starting aphid infestation.
Ervibank consists of a grain tussock with about 500 grain aphids (Sitobion avenae). These aphids are used by the parasitoids Aphidius ervi and Aphelinus abdominalis to build up a large population. Grain aphids only grow on monocots. Most cultivated crops are not. The grain aphids are therefore harmless to most crops in glasshouse cultivation.
How does Ervibank work?
The grain aphids are used as hosts by Aphidius ervi and Aphelinus abdominalis. Through the continuous development of grain aphids on the grain tussock; the parasitoids can build up and sustain a large population. This creates an overkill situation. Starting pests can then be immediately made harmless by the presence of large numbers of control agents.
How to combine Ervibank?
Use APHIDEND if hyperparasitization occurs in the grain tussock or crop during the season. The larvae of this gall midge are good control agents against aphids that occur in hot spots.
