What does SWIRSKI MITE look like?
The mobile stages of this predatory mite have beige-pink, tear-shaped bodies and a ‘pushed down’ appearance on short legs. The eggs are oval shaped and translucent white. All predatory mite stages are mainly found in the corner of main and lateral leaf veins and in flowers. Amblyseius swirskii very difficult to distinguish in the field from Neoseiulus cucumeris (THRIPEX) and Neoseiulus californicus (SPICAL).
How does SWIRSKI MITE work?
Adult predatory mites and nymphs suck young thrips larvae and whitefly larvae and eggs empty. Both greenhouse whitefly and tobacco whitefly are preyed upon. SWIRSKI MITE also feeds on two-spotted spider mite and other mites. The predatory mites can establish populations on paprika and eggplant pollen.
When can SWIRSKI MITE be applied?
SWIRSKI MITE is used for the biological control of various thrips, whiteflies and mites in greenhouses and indoor plantings. Preventive applications on pollen can be done when flowers start to bloom. SWIRSKI MITE can hamper other mite species. Consider multiple introductions. The product is sensitive to several chemical pesticides. Ask advice for deployment strategies.
