Effective against brown soft scale and hemispherical scale
What does METAPHYCUS FLAVUS look like?
Females of this parasitoid species are 1 mm in size and yellow coloured. Males look almost identical to females but are usually slightly smaller and have a slightly darker abdomen. Parasitized soft scales can be recognized by one or several dark rings around the scale. Within this ring lies the parasitoid larvae or pupae. The young parasitoids will emerge through a hole at the end of the pupae.
How does METAPHYCUS FLAVUS work?
METAPHYCUS FLAVUS is able to parasitize both small and large stages of soft scales. Depending on the size of the soft scale, female parasitoids lay one or several eggs in the soft scale. The young parasitoids develop inside the host. They emerge through a small hole in the soft scale. The empty scale will remain on the plant. Adult parasitoids mainly feed on young soft scale stages by puncturing and feeding on their contents. This will kill the young soft scale and is called host feeding.
When can METAPHYCUS FLAVUS be applied?
METAPHYCUS FLAVUS can be used in greenhouses and indoor plantings to control brown soft scale (Coccus hesperidum), hemispherical scale (Saissetia coffeae) and oleander scale (Saissetia oleae). The temperature should be above 18 ⁰C. Consider multiple introductions. The product is sensitive to several chemical pesticides.
