Effective against long-tailed mealybug
What does CRYPTANUSIA AUREISCUTELLUM look like?
Females of the parasitoid CRYPTANUSIA AUREISCUTELLUM are black with a gold-brown shiny scutellum. The antennae are huge in comparison to its body. The last two antennae parts have the shape of a blade with notches on the edge. Males are black and have normal antennae. Females are approximately 3 mm in size, males are slightly smaller. Parasitized mealybugs bulge and form pupae and are difficult to find. Young wasps emerge by chewing a hole at the end of the pupae. Females are very active and use their antennae in a distinctive way: they move their antennae one by one, alternating the left and the right.
How does CRYPTANUSIA AUREISCUTELLUM work?
The parasitoid CRYPTANUSIA AUREISCUTELLUM parasitizes the second and third instar stages of the long-tailed mealybug. One egg is deposited per mealybug, which leads to a single parasitoid emerging from a parasitized mealybug. Adult parasitoids feed by puncturing and sucking younger mealybug stages, which kills them in the process.
When can CRYPTANUSIA AUREISCUTELLUM be applied?
CRYPTANUSIA AUREISCUTELLUM is used in greenhouses and indoor plantings to control long-tailed mealybugs (Pseudococcus longispinus). They establish well and remain alive for several weeks when honeydew is available. Consider multiple introductions. The product is sensitive to several chemical pesticides. Ask advice for deployment strategies.
