What does APHIPAR look like?

APHIPAR contains individuals of the parasitoid Aphidius colemaniThe female is black, has lightly brown legs and a pointed abdomen which is as long as the wings. The male has dark brown legs, slightly longer antennae and a rounded abdomen which is shorter than the wings. A parasitized aphid bulges and turns into a mummy. The adult parasitoids emerge from the mummy through a round lid.

How does APHIPAR work?

This parasitoid is a good searcher, which makes is suitable to control low aphid densities. Females deposit eggs quickly, making this parasitoid suitable to use in the presence of ants. Parasitoid population development can be hampered in summer and late summer by hyperparasitism. Hyperparasitoids are parasitoids that parasitize pupae of other parasitoid species.
